Hopefully everyone is enjoying a wonderful 3 day weekend with our President's Day Holiday.

This week our theme is Washington and Lincoln. We have some fun activities planned for the kids. On Wednesday we will enjoy birthday cupcakes after lunch in honor of Colton's 1st birthday, then on Thursday the Wise Owls class will enjoy their monthly trip to the park. Hopefully the weather will cooperate with us.

This Sunday, February 20th I will be participating in the 2nd Annual Preschool Fair located at the new Kicks For Kids complex here in Surprise, Arizona. While my enrollment for the 2009/2010 school year is already expected to be full, I look forward to participating and feel proud that I can showcase our wonderful little preschool. If you and your family would like to stop by, the fair will run from 11am - 3pm. The address is 13128 W. Foxfire Drive Suite 106, located near Bell and Dysart. In addition to the participating preschools, "Robin" with Red Robin, will be there passing out chicken and fries. Trader Joes will be there with healthy snacks and water and the library will be there with some child related activities. There will also be some other child related businesses in attendance. If you do stop by, be sure to visit my booth and I will have a free gift for your child.

Tonight in an effort to promote the preschool fair, S.O.S. will be hosting Family Night at Chick-Fil-A from 5 - 7 PM. If you purchase a regular meal you will receive a kids meal for free so if you're not sure what's for dinner tonight you might want to head to Chick-Fil-A.

That's about all for this week. Enjoy the rest of your Monday!

Miss Robin

We are so busy at preschool that the time is just flying by! We are making some changes with our setup that I think the children are loving! We now have a new U-shaped table for our lessons and manipulative's. The Wise Owls class has had a chance to break it in this week and are loving it! It has been a wonderful addition to our preschool. We also have new cubbie's so each child officially has their own little space here at Robin's Nest. Any papers or personal items that are left behind can be found in that child's cubby.

You will notice that I've gotten rid of the invoice folders. Now that I'm using the CK-Kids to keep track of all of my records I'm no longer keeping a running folder like in the past. At any time if you want an invoice or receipt printed for you, please feel free to send me an email and I'll send it to you. As always you will receive a W-10 each January for the previous year. All parents should've received their 2008 W-10 last month. If for some reason you didn't receive one please let me know.

There are now 2 stacking trays on the shelf above the coat hooks. The top tray has an assortment of books for our Book Bucks Program and the bottom tray has a log for you to fill out when your child selects a new book. You should've received an email earlier this week with an update on Book Bucks. If your child has earned a book please don't forget to have them select a book.

Robin's Nest Preschool & Childcare has been officially endorsed as Eco-Healthy. This is a process that I started before Christmas and I'm very excited to be one of only 2 providers to be endorsed in the state of Arizona. What does this mean to you as a parent? You can feel confident in leaving your child in an environment that will protect them from non-toxic pesticides and herbicides, the indoor air is clean by remaining smoke free and preventing mold and mildew, no aerosol sprays will be used, all cleaning products are non-toxic, we are preventing lead exposure from drinking water and paint, using digital thermometers to avoid mercury, limited use of areas with wall to wall carpet, using non-toxic art supplies, keeping plastic out of the microwave, providing a toxin free playground and following the 3 R's...Reduce, Reuse and Recycle!

Wow, so much to cover this week! On Sunday, February 22nd I will be participating in the 2nd annual Surprise Preschool Fair. At this time I am anticipating that my enrollment for the 2009/2010 school year is just about full. I will offer 3 classes that you can view on my website. I can't emphasize enough that if you want your child to attend one of my classes next year or you have a friend or family member who you want to refer to me, please just let me know. I'm not formally accepting enrollment forms or supply fees yet but I don't want someone to get left out. My class ratio is very small at 4 to 1 so my classes will fill up fast.

Next week we have another very busy week. I'm actually going to spend the majority of my weekend working on preschool related tasks to ensure that we run smoothly next week. Please take a minute to review our calendar to be sure your child doesn't miss out and remember to bring your Valentine's Day Sacks on the day designated for your child's class.

Have a great weekend! ~ Miss Robin

It's  so hard to believe we are already in our final week of January. We have a busy week coming up with the celebration of the Chinese New Year and our monthly Show N Tell. This week our Nestlings class will bring a blue show n tell item on Tuesday while our Wise Owls class will bring their blue item on Friday. Music class has been canceled for this week and will return in February. Our theme for the week will be Polar Animals. We will review our letters of the month R, D, and G, as well as our number 5, triangle shape, and color blue.

Just a reminder that our class starts at 9:45 each day. The children are allowed to arrive as early as 9:30 if needed but any earlier than that and I'm often busy with other tasks. If you need to drop off any earlier than 9:30 please be sure to discuss it with me in advance.

Have a great week! ~Miss Robin

Is it winter? 01/17/2009

What a wonderful week we had at preschool. The weather was perfect for us to focus on our week about nutrition. We had so much fun playing outside with weather in the mid to high 70's. This is definitely the time of year that we are so fortunate to live in such a beautiful state.

Friday I attended a workshop with Handwriting Without Tears. I only wish I could've attended sooner! I feel so fortunate to have found this program and I can't wait to start incorporating it into our classroom. We will incorporate many of the HWT concepts in both classes but the program really is geared more towards the 4 year olds. In the fall my entire curriculum for the 4 year olds will be based around this program. It is fantastic!

As you know school will be closed on Monday in honor of MLK Day. When the Nestlings return on Tuesday we will celebrate our 100th day of school, then on Thursday the Wise Owls class will enjoy their monthly playdate at the park.

Have a wonderful weekend and again I will end with Go Cardinals!

Welcome Back! 01/09/2009

Wow! What a busy week we had here at preschool. I'll upload some new pictures to the site within the next few days so you can see some of the fun we are having in the new year. It was great getting back in a routine and having all of the kids back.

Notes:

1.) This Friday, January the 16th I will be leaving early to attend the Handwriting Without Tears ~ Get Set For School workshop. Brenna will be on duty keeping a close eye on the children.

2.) Our monthly playdate at the park for the Nestlings class will be on Monday. Be sure to dress your child appropriately for the weather so they can join in on the fun.

3.) Our two new students start this week so let's give them a warm welcome.

4.) Parents please make sure your children are using the sidewalk and driveway and aren't walking through the landscaping. We are now using a professional landscaping company to keep things pretty for us and they are treating some of the areas with pet repellant. Nothing that will harm the children or any animal, just a deterrent to keep their waste out of our yard to keep our environment healthy. Thank you for your cooperation.

Next Week:   We will work on our unit about nutrition, continue with our color (blue) and shape (triangle) of the month, and introduce the number 5.  Our letter for the week will be Dd.

Have a wonderful weekend and Go Cardinals! :)  ~Miss Robin

Welcome to 2009! 01/04/2009

We have a lot of wonderful things planned for the second half of the school year and I can't wait to jump back in and get started. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday break and that 2009 is starting off in a great way for you.

We will be talking about the New Year this week when the kids return and celebrating the arrival of 2009. We will introduce the triangle shape, the letter Rr, the number 5, the color blue, and will learn a new Spanish and American Sign Lanuage word. We will be going full speed ahead and having tons of fun!

New children enrolled: Over the holiday break we had 2 new children enroll in our preschool. We welcome Wyatt who will join our Nestlings class on Tuesday's and Quin who will attend all 3 days of our Wise Owls class. We are excited you decided to join us and we look forward to getting to know our new friends.

Within the next two weeks you will be greeted with a new welcome center when you arrive for preschool. Miss Robin's husband is busy building new floor lockers to house backpacks, jackets, shoes, and school projects for each child. This is also where our parents sign in sheet and book buck library will be located.

That's about all of the news I have for this week. I look forward to seeing everyone's smiling face when you return.

Warm Regards,
Miss Robin
