If your home is anything like mine, the holiday treats seem to be never-ending. I believe  it starts at Halloween with the candy then just as we throw out our last few pieces the Christmas goodies start piling in from all directions. Just as we clear out all of the Christmas goodies, Valentines Day is knocking on our door. As soon as we are indulging in our last bite of chocolate taken from that heart shaped box, that silly Chocolate Easter bunny is hopping down our path spilling jelly beans.

This madness has to stop! This year the Easter bunny is bringing healthy treats our way. Boring, you say? No way! This is going to be FUN!!! Here is what I'm thinking: Baby carrots of course and fresh colorful sun kissed fruit (banana, apple and orange). Single serve bags of nuts and a granola bar. Why not fill plastic eggs with dried fruit such as raisins, craisins, apricots and dates? Looking for something more festive? What about yogurt dipped pretzels in pastel colors?

Now let's move beyond the goodies and think about some fun items to encourage outdoor play. A new beach towel, new bathing suit, flip flops, bubbles, jump rope, hat, sunglasses, kite, sidewalk chalk...you get the idea.

Let's make a difference in the lives of our children. It's so much easier for them to learn good habits when they are young and it doesn't have to be boring. They look up to us to set a good example for them. This year we will be celebrating with a healthy Easter. Will you join me?

Most of you recognize this as a place where I typically publish my newsletter. At this time I will be adding a different page to my website with a monthly newsletter and this space will be used as my preschool blog. I will pop in from time to time and share little tidbits with everyone. Please feel free to click the "comments" tab above each blog and leave a comment for me. The more you interact with me, the better my program will be. You can also click on the RSS Feed tab to subscribe to this blog so you don't miss a thing. I'm really excited about the wonderful improvements taking place in my program. I can't wait to share them with you and your precious children.

News! 01/22/2010

  Happy Friday!!

This week we talked about Health and Nutrition in preschool. All of the children in the Wise Owls class brought home a health chart to complete. Please have the kids return their chart on Wednesday, January 27th and they will receive a special prize. Our Wise Owls class also enjoyed a fun cooking lesson on Wednesday. We made a yummy apple carrot salad that the kids all enjoyed. Our Robin Eggs class went off the theme for the week so we could talk about rain! It’s not often we see this kind of rain in Arizona so the subject really stirred some fun conversation with our young group.

Next week we will be talking about ocean life.

Our snack program has been working out really well. In fact the juice donations have piled up so please discontinue bringing juice until further notice. Please continue bringing healthy snack donations.

I will send home tax receipts for 2009 by the end of next week. Robin Eggs students will bring them home on Thursday and Wise Owls will bring them home on Friday.

As previously mentioned, all supply fees of $25 per child are due by February 1st. This helps me keep my preschool program up to date with all supplies needed including printer ink and paper which are very costly. This also allows me to keep my monthly rates as low as possible.

On Thursday, January 28th I will be leaving at 9:45 to attend a meeting. School will be in session as usual and Ashlyn will substitute for the last 30 minutes of class that day.

Now reserving spaces for the 2010 & 2011 school year. These spaces are currently available only to enrolled students. I will open my enrollment to the public on March 1st. My class sizes will continue to be small  so that I can continue to meet the individual needs of each student.

Wise Owls – Preschool $145 per month
3 to 5 years (child must be potty trained to enter this class and must turn 3 prior to the first day of school)

Monday, Wednesday, Friday - 9:15 - Noon

Have a great weekend!

Hello Parents! Welcome back to preschool! We had a great first week back in class. The kids were eager and had a great time seeing their friends again.

We have another busy month at preschool, nothing new, always busy here. :) I do want you all to know that I'm really trying to find the time to get our website updated with all of the pictures I've taken so far this year. Keep in mind that the quality isn't great but now that I have a new camera we will have some great pictures for the 2nd half of the year. I'll try and do a little each day this week.

This week we are talking about bears! Per Jacob's request, our Wise Owls class will be wearing pajamas to school once again on Friday. He was anxious for another pajama day. Please have your child wear pajamas and bring their favorite teddy. We will have an indoor teddy bear pajama picnic party!

Just a reminder that supply fees ($25 per child) for our 2nd semester are now due. If you haven't already paid your fee, please do so by February 1st. You may add it to your tuition payment on February 1st. If you are unsure if you've already paid your fee, just send me a quick email.

I'll send out another newsletter soon with some dates to mark on your calendar, including our spring field trip.

Have a great week!

Can you believe Christmas is here? This is always such a busy time of year for everyone and the season just seems to fly by. The children will be busy little elves this month as we learn new things, practice what we've already learned, and have fun enjoying the festivities that this time of year brings. This month we will collect canned/non-perishable food as well as NEW unwrapped toys. We will donate our contributions to the Surprise Fire Department as they are collecting food and toys for families here in Surprise who are experiencing hard times this season. What a great way to help out our own community!

I wish you all a wonderful holiday season. Please take time to enjoy this precious time with your children, they will never be this age again. I've been blessed to watch many children grow up "too fast" over the years. In fact, my first group of little learners turned 22 this year! I've truly been blessed and I enjoy the children a little more with each passing year. Happy Holidays! ~Miss Robin

Hello Parents,

This week I sent you a link to our online calendar for April. That pretty much sums up what we have going on this month but I want to touch base really quick on a couple of things.

Tuesday is our spring family field trip to the Texas VS San Francisco spring training game. I sent out all of the information to those who will be attending. If you didn't get this information please let me know. No classes will be held on Tuesday.

On our calendar you see that we will celebrate Week of the Young Child (April 13th - 17th) here at Robin's Nest. This is a special week where we come together as a community and allow our children to bring us together. I will be celebrating the children in my class each day with a different fun event.

Monday - Pancake Breakfast

Tuesday - Special Delivery for the Nestlings

Wednesday - Special Delivery for the Wise Owls

Thursday - Crazy Hair or Hat Day

Friday - Pajama Day

Some of you might be wondering what our Special Delivery is....well, it's a surprise and if you happen to guess, please don't tell the children. The magic clue is "Hope". :)

I'm so excited about Week of the Young Child and I hope each and every one of you will find something special to do with your children in our community that week. It seems to be especially important during these tough economic times that our community pulls together, so I encourage you to get out and enjoy something that our wonderful community here in Surprise has to offer. It can be as simple as taking your children to the Surprise Park to feed the ducks or going on a hike in our beautiful White Tank Mountains. Maybe you can even have your children help you bake some cookies to deliver to one of the local fire houses.

Have a wonderful week! Miss Robin

Hello parents,

We have a busy week coming up so be sure to read today's newsletter.

We will have a fun filled week talking about Baseball! The weather couldn't be better so we're going to have so much fun with this theme. Please be sure your child wears socks and sneakers next week. I know with the warm weather it's so tempting to wear sandals and flip-flops but please refrain from summer shoes next week so your child doesn't miss out on any of the fun.

Speaking of baseball, I haven't had any feedback on our spring family field trip. I plan to purchase the tickets on Wednesday so please let me know if you plan to attend. Tickets are $7 per person. We hope you can join us for a day of fun in the sun!

Show N Tell - Our Nestlings class will have show n tell on Tuesday and our Wise Owls class will have their show n tell on Friday. Please have your child bring something PURPLE to share.

Music - Our music class is this Wednesday at 10AM. As always, the Nestlings are welcome to join us for a fun morning of music with Ms. Tanya. Nestlings are welcome to arrive as early as 9:45 with a pick up time of 11AM. Please let me know if your little Nestling will be joining us.

Birthday Time! On Friday our Wise Owls class will celebrate Kenzie's 4th birthday!

Open Registration - I'm officially accepting registration for the 2009/2010 school year. Thank you for communicating your preschool needs with me. If you have any friends or family who you would like to have enrolled with your children, be sure they contact me as soon as possible. Space is still available but is very limited as I will be busy this week conducting interviews for my last few openings.

Scholastic Book orders are being finalized today and should arrive by the 27th. Thank you for all of your orders. The kids are really enjoying their reading time and love getting new books. Don't forget about our class book exchange. Please bring an old book from home and exchange it with a book in our exchange box.

Have a great weekend!
Miss Robin

As you all probably noticed this week, our preschool is overflowing with books! I'm like a kid in a candy store with all of these books! I've been busy sorting all of the books in categories that will relate with our weekly themes. Each week the books in our reading center will be rotated to keep the children fascinated with their new selections. As I type this, two of our little readers are busy in the reading area reading to each other. They watched me as I replaced the area with new books and couldn't wait to get their hands on them. It brings me such joy when children love to read and get as excited about books as I do.

We completed our first week of reading for the Book It program sponsored by Pizza Hut. This week our class read as a group for 100 minutes! As your children read at home, please be sure to fill out their little Book It Crayons so we can add them to our class poster that will no doubt soon be overflowing. You received one page that has 4 crayons on it. At the end of each week, just write down the number of minutes you read that week on one crayon.

I want to take a moment to send a very special thank you to Mrs. Van Winkle who was very generous with her donation of over 300 new books for our classroom. The children and I are so thrilled by your wonderful act of kindness. Thank you!

Something New: When the children return from Spring Break we will have a book box located in the entry. For the remainder of the year the children can participate in a book exchange. Bring an old book and place it in the box and grab a "new" book to take with you. This is a great way for the kids to recycle their old books and share with each other.

Program: As hard as it is to believe, we are already busy preparing for our end of the year program. Please save the date of May 19th for our program that will be held at 10:45 AM. If you would like to invite grandparent's, godparent's or any other special people in your child's life, please let them know to save the date as well. We will send home invitations that you can hand out when the date gets a little closer.

February Pictures: During the Spring Break holiday I will work on uploading our February pictures to our website. I'll send everyone a link when I complete that task.

Enrollment: Enrollment for the 2009/2010 school year will open to new students on March 21st. Based on my preliminary list of those who have expressed an interest in enrolling their children, I will not have room for everyone and will need to start a waiting list. My current students and their siblings will receive first priority. I will send home enrollment packets the week after Spring Break so that you can get your paperwork turned in prior to the 21st when my enrollment will open up to new students.

Spring Family Field Trip: Our field trip is scheduled for Tuesday, March 31st to attend one of the last Spring Training Games here in Surprise. Please join us as we watch Texas take on San Francisco. We will meet at 12:15 to give us plenty of time to claim a nice area in the lawn and then purchase concessions before the game begins at 1:05. I haven't been successful at scheduling a tour but I think the children will still enjoy a day at the ballpark with their family and friends. We will have just wrapped up our theme on Baseball so this should really be fun. Depending on how many members of each family attend, we might get a discount on our tickets so please let me know if your child will be attending and how many will be in your group. Regular tickets are $7 each. Please bring a picnic blanket, hats, and sunscreen.

Have a wonderful Spring Break!

-Miss Robin
